A distinctive piece of mid-century pottery history, this covered ceramic casserole combines an American-made C.R.R. Valor Ware base with a fitted lid marked Vallauris A.M. France. Featuring a warm natural clay-colored exterior, rich mottled brown glaze, integrated side handles, and a domed lid, it brings rustic French country character to a kitchen display, pottery collection, or farmhouse-inspired interior.
Valor Ware was manufactured by Brown's Pottery of Arden, North Carolina, through a World War II-era business arrangement with the Ruegger family, distributors associated with French cookware in the United States. The contrasting American and French markings make this example particularly interesting in light of that history. The lid fits the casserole properly, although its original pairing with the base and its precise production date have not been independently confirmed.
