Vallauris is a town in Southern France, known as the "city of potters" or the French capital of pottery and ceramics, and it has a 2000 year history of producing traditional pottery dating back to the Roman era. Produced from special clay, the daubiere was designed for slow-cooking daube, the classic Provencal beef stew. The lid and interior of the pot are glazed, while the outside is unglazed. A great pot for cooking or for display in a rustic setting. Imprinted with Vallauris and France on the lid and bottom of the pot. During WWll, Brown Pottery of Arden, NC, worked with a distributor to import pottery from Vallauris to America and branded it CRP Valor Ware. The CRP stands for Conservation, Rehabilitation, and Production and was part of a government initiative to look for alternative production sources during the war. Their imprint is on the side of the casserole. Good condition with minimal wear consistent with age and use. Please refer to photos. 11.25"D x 3.5"H w/o lid, with lid 6.125"H.
