Vallauris is a town in Southern France, known as the "city of potters" or the French capital of pottery and ceramics, and it has a 2000 year history of producing traditional pottery dating back to the Roman era. Produced from special clay, the daubiere was designed for slow-cooking daube, the classic Provencal beef stew. The lid and interior of the pot are glazed, while the outside is unglazed. A great pot for cooking or for display in a rustic setting. Imprinted with Vallauris and France on the lid and bottom of the pot. During WWll, Brown Pottery of Arden, NC, worked with a distributor to import pottery from Vallauris to America and branded it CRP Valor Ware. The CRP stands for Conservation, Rehabilitation, and Production and was part of a government initiative to look for alternative production sources during the war.
