The sculpture appears to be a hand-carved jade or greenstone stylized depiction of the face of a deity or human. It resembles artifacts from Mesoamerican cultures like the Olmec or Maya. It is likely made from jadeite or a similar greenstone, often utilized for its symbolic value. Historically produced by skilled craftsmen in regions covering modern-day Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. There was an attached verse taped to the bottom of the plinth. "Among all other he regarded one alone and so immortalized her face upon this stone" which is associated with a poetic, romanticized interpretation of Michelangelo Buonarroti and his creation of the Pietà or other sculptures, often reflecting on his devotion to carving, or specifically, his contemplation of a single face or form within marble. Please refer to the photos as they are part of the description. Approximately 5"H x 6"W x 2.5"D.
