Artist Al Masri's paintings incorporate different forms of ancient art and cultural symbols such as inscriptions, pottery, weapons, or jewelry. Most of his paintings reflect images, faces and shapes of ancient heritages from Nabataeans, Sumerian, Egyptian or Mesopotamia. This can range from coins over palm trees to vases or fishes. Al Masri usually works on a prepared medium, where he carves the main lines of his image. He then paints the picture with earth tones and sometimes other bold colors such as red, turquoise, blue or purple. The carving adds to the three-dimensional shape and underlines the texture and reminds one of ancient inscriptions.  Artist signed and dated 2006.
