This striking antique water jug is a beautiful example of 19th-century Islamic or Persian tinned copper craftsmanship. Hand-hammered from heavy solid copper, it features a traditional bulbous silhouette coated in a rustic, thin layer of applied tin to achieve its classic silvery-gray tone. The detailed hand-etched bands around the shoulder and neck, paired with a stout, hand-wrought sweeping handle, make this an incredibly rich conversation piece. CONDITION
Good vintage/pre-owned condition. This piece displays a deep, authentic oxidized dark patina and significant surface wear consistent with its extensive age and historical utilitarian use. There are minor structural surface dimples from the hand-forging process and age-appropriate thinning of the exterior tin finish, which reveals the beautiful warm red copper tones beneath. Notably, there is a small area of missing metal near the bottom attachment point where the handle meets the lower body of the jug; however, the hand-wrought handle remains tightly attached, stable, and structurally firm overall.
