The gilded metal frame features ornate rococo-style carvings, including scrolling foliage and floral motifs. Genuine antique stands from this period are made of solid, heavy cast brass. They do not use modern brass-plated steel. The ornate, swirling openwork shelf and the twisted "rope" style legs are classic design markers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. You can see a deep, darkened golden patina settled into the grooves of the metal, which naturally happens to true brass as it oxidizes over decades.
