A striking antique French faience bowl by Keller & Guerin of Lunéville in the Ecrans pattern, decorated with an exuberant mix of Japanese-inspired imagery in blue, orange, cream and gold. The scalloped square form features layered scenes of figures, birds, flowers and a lizard arranged like overlapping prints or screens—a distinctive example of late-19th-century Japonisme and Aesthetic Movement design. With decoration continuing around the exterior, this is a beautiful display piece from every angle. Its sculptural shape and graphic palette work especially well as a centerpiece on a console, dining table or cabinet, or as part of a collection of French faience, transferware or Japonisme ceramics.
