Set of 7 indigo dyed placemats with Edo motifs. Sasakura Gensho was a Japanese company who produced high-quality cotton textiles using the ancient paste resist technique for dying fabric. A thick, starchy paste (often rice or flour-based) is applied to the fabric to act as a barrier against the dye in order to create intricate patterns.
